Healthy Trajectories was fortunate enough to support four presenters at the 2024 AusACPDM conference that took place in August this year.
The speakers presented papers along with posters to summarize their research, from topics such as pilot studies on movement therapy to methods for improving the perception of family-centered practices.

Jacinta is a speech pathologist who is passionate about expanding the communication resources of people with disabilities. Her presentation was about enhancing the participation of people with communication disabilities in research by optimising informed consent processes.

People with complex communication needs are often excluded from participating in research projects – partly because researchers often do not know how to obtain informed consent from them. The systematic exclusion of people with communication disabilities from relevant research has a significant impact on the field’s knowledge and limits the development of effective evidence-based practices. At AusACPDM, Jacinta presented a poster on this topic, titled “Enhancing the participation of people with communication disabilities in research by optimising informed consent processes.” The goal for presenting this poster in person was to foster conversations with delegates and highlight that it is certainly possible to obtain informed consent from this cohort using strategies and flexible processes outlined in the poster.
