Healthy Trajectories at the 2026 Oceania Academy Conference

Share Post:

The 13th Oceania Academy of Cerebral Palsy and other Childhood-onset Disabilities Biennial conference took place in Hobart from 4th to 7th March. The conference provided an opportunity for researchers, people with lived experience, clinicians, and others to meet, collaborate, and share their research and experiences.

The Healthy Trajectories team were pleased to be able to share a range of presentations. Our director, Professor Christine Imms, along with Dr. Bridget O’Connor and Dr. Kerry Britt, were part of a pre-conference workshop exploring programs aimed at empowering caregivers, families and communities raising young people with developmental differences. Christine, Bridget, and Kerry were also involved in a workshop about the ENVISAGE program along with our ENVISAGE partners, Professor Laura Miller and Colleen Tompkins. Dr. Nicole Merrick presented her work ‘Coordinating Care: experiences and perspectives of clinicians working with children with medically complex cerebral palsy’, while Ingrid Sutherland gave a presentation titled ‘A toolkit for clinicians working with children with complex disability’. Christine also presented on ‘A Multicentre randomised controlled trial of rigid wrist and hand orthoses for young children with cerebral palsy’,, while Kerry presented on her PhD research ‘Creating and exploring opportunities to change how service providers think, talk about, and approach childhood-onset disability’.

There was a broad range of workshops and presentations across the conference. It was an engaging, motivating and inspiring few days, made even more enjoyable by the opportunity to catch up with old friends and acquaintances, and to make new ones.

We look forward to the next Oceania Academy conference in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2028.
