Healthy Trajectories is delighted to share that our Director, Professor Christine Imms, has been appointed Co-Chair of the Australian Government’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for NDIS Functional Capacity, alongside Mary Wood, Deputy Secretary of the Disability and Carers Group.

Announced by the Hon. Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Ageing and Minister for Disability and the National Disability Insurance Scheme and Senator Jenny McAllister, Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme on 9 July 2026, the TAG brings together national expertise in disability, clinical practice and assessment to help guide reforms aimed at securing the future of the NDIS.  Minister Butler will Co-Convene the TAG with ACT Minister for Disability, Carers and Community Services, Suzanne Orr.

The TAG has been established to provide independent, evidence-based advice on the development of a more robust, equitable and consistent approach to assessing substantially reduced functional capacity for NDIS access. As outlined in the media release, the group’s work will include developing an evidence-based assessment framework, advising on assessment tools and evidence requirements, and supporting the testing and implementation of proposed approaches. Importantly, the advice will be shaped by engagement with people with disability, families, carers, clinicians and the broader sector, ensuring lived experience remains central to the reform process.

Christine brings expertise in childhood-onset disability, occupational therapy and participation, and experience contributing to evidence-informed policy, which will undoubtedly contribute to this important national initiative and help shape a fairer, more consistent and accessible system for people with disability and their families. This appointment recognises Christine’s longstanding commitment to improving outcomes for children, young people and families living with disability, and reflects the important role that research, lived experience and evidence can play in shaping national policy.
